Nearly one in five West Yorkshire members is under 25, 35 to 44 is the most common age band at about three in ten, and nearly one in five is 55 or older, the second-highest share of any area we cover, after Hampshire. The city's best-known run of bars, packed on a Saturday and pleasantly easy on a Wednesday. Next door, the Victorian arcades of the Victoria Quarter are a handsome place to meet before deciding where the night goes.

Chapel Allerton

A north Leeds village with a string of wine bars and pubs, grown-up, relaxed and well away from the student crowd.

Roundhay Park

Huge, green and full of paths around Waterloo Lake. A daytime walk here is a gentle way to see if there's a spark.

Kirkstall

The ruined abbey by the Aire makes a striking backdrop for a stroll, with pubs along Kirkstall Road afterwards.

No trams, but every train leads to Leeds

Leeds is a big city with no tram or underground, so getting about is by train and bus. The good news is that Leeds station is the hub for the whole county. Bradford, Wakefield, Huddersfield, Halifax, Harrogate and the Airedale towns are all on direct lines, many of them twenty to forty minutes away, so a match in Huddersfield can be easier to meet than one on the far side of the ring road.

The old mill village by the canal, with Salts Mill, tea rooms and a towpath walk to Shipley Glen.

Hebden Bridge

Ilkley

The moor, the Cow and Calf rocks and smart little bars in town at the end of the Wharfedale line.
